QUILTERS Are The PIECEMAKERS Of The World!

(Fellow quilter Caroline Palmer remembers Jeanette Woods)

Caroline_TN

The "Sew What?" Quilters recently said good-bye to another one of our original members. Jeanette Woods and her husband, Rod, have moved to New Mexico. Jeanette has been with us since September, 2002. We will miss her sunny smile and willing response to help us with our projects. She was one of the "8 o'clock girls", always there with her keys to open up the quilting cupboards on mornings.

Each week, Jeanette made at least one crocheted blanket for the Linus Project. This is in addition to the many fleece blankets and quilts which she made for Linus, on a continuing basis. She learnt the art of quilting along with many other ladies, as lessons were given and instructions imparted for the steps one goes through to make a quilt, and she has made many quilts for Linus Project.

She helped us hand quilt an antique that was brought in by Jan VanMeter; it was a quilt top made by Jan's mother in the 1940's. We quilted it on a quilt frame - a "first" for many of us, and one that gave us a sense of the history of our "fore-mothers", and how they gathered in quilting bees in the old days - a special social affair.

Among all the other volunteer things she did at Solera, she was always organizing and helping -- eager to learn and give back, time after time. For example, just recently, when the Sew What?" Quilters of Solera were preparing to become a certified club, Jeanette served on the reorganization team.

Jeanette has won Linus Project awards at the Fountain Hills quilt and blanket competitions. A year ago, she won the quilt in the "Sew What?" Quilters raffle -- a beautiful quilt made by our group!

We will surely miss you, Jeanette! Keep in touch and may you find another fun quilter's group to join, with which to share your talents! Remember, quilters are the piecemakers of the world!
